Larry got his first show collie, Charliva’s Black Chiffon, nearly 50 years ago and all Wilding collies trace back to her.
Larry grew up in central Indiana and joined the the Indiana Collie Club while in college. After graduation, he took his first teaching job in central Illinois, where he helped found the Land o’ Lincoln Collie Club and served as president and Wag Tales editor.
His next move was to northern Illinois where he attended meetings of the Central States Collie Club. Larry eventually settled in the Chicago suburbs and joined the Illiana Collie Fanciers. He has served as board member, vice-president, president, and represented ICF to the United Collie Clubs of the Midwest (UCCOM). Larry is currently ICF’s AKC Canine Ambassador. During the seventies he represented the Illinois members of the Collie Club of America to the Executive Committee of the CCA.
In 1976, Larry and Judy married and have since raised three children, graduates of Calvin College, Baylor University, and a Wheaton College, who have scattered to New York, California, and Washington D.C.
After retiring from teaching in 1997, Larry and Judy accepted an invitation to join The Chicago Collie Club, the second oldest American collie club and a member club of the American Kennel Club. He and Judy have worked on the trophy, kitchen, bylaws, and finance committees. Judy has also served the club as show secretary. Larry currently serves as president.
Participation in the following groups contribute to our effectiveness as collie club members and breeders:
