"PET" or "COMPANION ONLY" or "LIMITED" Registration
Limited Registration means that the dog is registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club) but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration. Also, it is ineligible to be entered in a breed competition (conformation classes) in a licensed or member dog show. It would be eligible, however, to be entered in any other licensed or member events including: Obedience, Tracking, Field Trials, Hunting Tests, Herding, Lure Coursing, Agility and Earthdog.
Limited Registration helps breeders protect their breeding programs. There are a variety of reasons for a breeder to designate Limited Registration; two reasons might be a puppy with a cosmetic “flaw” rendering it less competitive in the show ring, and a young adult which had not matured as a show prospect. A puppy with limited registration usually sells for less than a “show” puppy. Limited Registration can be changed to Full Registration only by the litter owner(s).
